Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings are a pioneering initiative designed to assess universities based on their contribution to society, measured against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This ranking system provides a unique perspective on higher education institutions by evaluating their social and economic impact, in addition to their academic and research performance.

Ranking Criteria

The THE Impact Rankings are distinguished by their comprehensive and multi-faceted criteria, which encompass 17 SDGs established by the United Nations. Universities are evaluated based on a series of indicators across these goals, which include quality education, gender equality, climate action, and partnerships for the goals. The methodology emphasizes the global social responsibilities of higher education institutions and includes the following key components:

The institution should submit the evidence for at least 3 SDGs, each of which will be weighted as 26% of total score (The top 3 SDGs)

Sohag University pays special attention to the issue of sustainable development, and has emerged among the best national universities in this context and has won many national and Arab awards. With regard to the Times Sustainable Development ranking, Sohag University ranked 186th globally in the emerging economies file in 2017, and it also occupied advanced positions among the top 350 universities in the same framework during the years 2019, 2020, and 2023. And Sohag University was among the top 300 universities in the world in the clean energy file in 2000 and among the top 400 universities in the same context in 2023. The university also occupied an advanced position in the file of completely eliminating hunger, as it was among the top 400 universities in the world in 2023. And also among the top 400 universities in the file of poverty eradication in 2023. The university was among the top 200 global universities in the file of sustainability of cities and communities in 2017 and among the top 400 universities in the same file in 2020.

In 2024, Sohag University ranked 1001-1500 in the Times rankings. Sohag University has distinguished itself in the field of clean energy and has become among the top 200 universities in the world. The university has also occupied an advanced position in the field of clean water and has become among the top 300 universities in the world. The world, and in the file of poverty eradication, Sohag University has become among the best 600 universities in the world, and in the file of good health and well-being, Sohag University has become among the best 800 universities in the world.
