With steady steps towards the top, Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of Sohag University, announced that the university has achieved a new accomplishment in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. The university has advanced in the local ranking to occupy the 21st place among 36 ranked Egyptian universities, while maintaining its position in the global category (1201-1500) among 2191 universities worldwide, achieving a remarkable improvement in a number of academic and research performance indicators.
The university president explained that Sohag University’s overall score increased from 30 points last year to 32 points this year, reflecting a clear improvement in institutional and research performance. He added that the university achieved significant progress in the International Outlook axis, obtaining 52.2 points, ranking 834th globally, compared to 842nd last year. It also made progress in the quality of scientific research axis, obtaining 55.1 points.
Al-Nomany expressed his pride in this progress, emphasizing that the university’s positive results are the result of the ongoing efforts of the university’s administration, staff members, , and researchers, all within the framework of an ambitious vision aimed at enhancing the quality of education, scientific research, and community service.
He emphasized that the university is working according to an integrated plan to develop its capabilities and increase its international presence, in line with the state’s efforts to support Egyptian universities in achieving advanced global positions.
From his part, Dr. Amr Abdel Hamid, Director of the University’s Scientific Publishing Center, explained that the improvement in the international outlook axis reflects the success of the university’s strategy in building academic and research partnerships with prestigious institutions around the world, and increasing the volume of joint research and scientific publications in highly ranked international journals.
