Dr. Hassan El-Nomani, President of Sohag University, stressed that the university is making great efforts to carry out its mission in the field of linking university education with the needs of society to develop and advance agricultural production, as it is making intensive efforts to cultivate wheat seeds that lead to the production of high-quality seeds, which are marketed to farmers to promote the wheat crop and reduce its import.
Al-Nomany explained that the university farms in Al-Kawthar and Al-Kawamil cover an area of 360 acres, and include various agricultural crops that are characterized by being high-quality and productive crops, adding that at the beginning of this winter season 2024/2025, 42 acres of bread wheat were planted to produce certified seeds of the varieties Seds 12, Jamiza 11 and Giza 171, and 11 acres of barley were planted.
Stressing that the plants are currently in the process of elongation and the production of this season of high-quality agricultural crops, especially this important strategic crop, which is considered one of the most important axes of food security and its achievement for the Sohag citizen.
Dr. Khalaf Hammam, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, added that modern technologies are being used and logistical support is being provided to farmers to implement the modern system in agriculture, through the use of modern machines for sowing grains and modern methods for combating parasitic and climbing weeds, in addition to using the drip irrigation method, which is a modern means of irrigation that saves water and other technologies to obtain the highest return from production.
