Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, stated that the Magnetic Resonance Unit at Faculty of Science is the first of its kind in Upper Egypt, and plays an important role in enriching scientific research inside and outside Egypt, by serving researchers and professors of Egyptian universities in many faculties and research institutes from faculties Science, medicine, pharmacy and archeology in Egypt and various Arab countries, working to disseminate modern technology related to researchers and students, and looking forward to covering the requirements of the local and international market in the fields of scientific research.
Al-Numani added that the unit includes two devices, the first magnetic resonance device and the second an FTIR infrared spectroscopy device, explaining that the magnetic resonance device is used to identify organic compounds of unknown shape, define the shape with the infrared device, measure the properties of molecules and study the structure of chemical compounds using solvents in particular, the chemical composition of research samples and the nuclei of chemical elements that have magnetic resonance are identified, and the nuclei of the elements hydrogen, carbon, phosphorus, fluorine, sodium and nitrogen are identified which serves both researchers from the faculties of science, pharmacy, medicine, and archaeology, and also serves students in interpreting the form and composition of materials, and in the field of chemical sciences, analytical sciences, crystal biology, and the field of medicine such as diagnosing tumors, in addition to providing the external community with many services through factories and research bodies
.
Dr. Hazem Al-Mushanab, Dean of the faculty, said that the MRI unit is one of the laboratories of the faculty of Science and is affiliated with the University Services Marketing Center and serves the entire Upper Egypt region.
Researchers use it to prepare new compounds expected to have a distinct medicinal effect, and work to prove the structural structure for these compounds using various means, including spectroscopic techniques, especially the magnetic resonance device, which was provided at faculty of Science to conduct some computer measurements to determine their effectiveness as a medical drug and compare them to some known drugs and measuring the biological and pharmacological effect outside the cell in vitro and what proves their effectiveness, as these studies are conducted inside the cell in vivo for some experimental animals, which is done in cooperation with colleagues specialized in the field of biochemistry and medicinal chemistry, whether in faculty of Science or faculty of Pharmacy and some other research centers.
