The Department of Animal Production at Faculty of Agriculture, Sohag University, organized a workshop entitled “The Sohagian sheep is a promising breed in Upper Egypt to achieve sustainable development,” at the faculty’s headquarters in the new university campus, in the presence of Prof. Khaled Omran, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Khalaf Hammam,the dean of the Faculty. Prof. Gamal Salouma, former head of the department, Dr. Ahmed Al-Nahhas, Assistant Professor of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Islam Zaidan, Director General of Economic Affairs in the governorate, Dr. Essam Arafa, Director General of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Sohag, Eng. Khamis Barakat, Director General of the Directorate of Agriculture in the governorate, and a group of the staff members., and a number of specialists who interested in this field.
Prof. Mostafa Abdel-Khalek, the President of the University, praised the activities of the workshop and the important axes it included related to the file of animal wealth and food security in light of the challenges facing achieving the goals of sustainable development, explaining that global crises greatly affect the economies of countries and the decline in productivity in the agricultural and animal sector, Therefore, the Egyptian state provides all aspects of support for the development of livestock, by moving towards replacing the old livestock sector with genetically improved, dual-purpose breeds for the production of milk and meat and meeting the needs of breeders and citizens.
