In Implementation of the Presidential Initiative (Alliance and Development), Sohag University announces the Winners of the First Positions in the Scientific Innovation Competition

Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of Sohag University, witnessed the judging activities of the scientific innovation competition, which was organized by Faculty of Engineering in cooperation with the Center of Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Sohag, affiliated to the Ministry of Communications, and the University’s Taiko Office, under the title (Sohag Innovates).

With the participation of 41 projects from pre-university and higher education students, the event was attended by Dr. Ahmed Qasim, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Talaat Ali, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Hani Mahmoud, Director of the Taiko Unit, and members of the judging committee.

Al-Nomany stressed that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, is keen to support young people with constructive innovations and inventions to transform them into economic projects, enabling them to contribute to leading the development process to achieve the future vision 2030, pointing out that the “Sohag Innovates” competition comes in implementation of the presidential initiative (Alliance and Development).

It aims to spread the culture of creativity and enhance young people’s thinking skills, prepare them to meet the challenges of the labor market, and motivate them to embark on the world of entrepreneurship and freelancing.

The university president praised the outstanding level of the participating students and the level of creativity he witnessed in the projects presented in the competition, which were not just passing ideas, but rather embodied a real ambition and a sincere desire to achieve success and participate in building a future based on efficiency and excellence.

He added that most of the projects were based on creative and innovative ideas in the fields of engineering,

diverse agricultural, technological, and medical fields reflect young people’s awareness of the importance of innovation as a means of keeping pace with modern demands and contributing to achieving sustainable development.

Dr. Abdel Nasser Youssef, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, said that the university, is keen to enhance the state’s efforts in supporting innovators and young entrepreneurs, and to provide opportunities for innovative youth through coordination with all governmental and private institutions, providing technical and financial support, and providing incubators that help them develop their ideas and hone their capabilities and skills

and connect them to experts and investors who can help transform their projects into successful, implementable models that can spread to local and global markets.

Dr. Ahmed Qasim explained that the competition was attended by students from the faculties of engineering, agriculture, commerce, pharmacy, computers and artificial intelligence, and faculty of technology and education, in addition to 19 participants from pre-university education stages. The judging committee of the Innovation Competition for Buds announced the victory of both (Mohamed Wael and Ahmed Wael) in first positions for inventing a personal assistant robot for people with disabilities.

Youssef Ahmed Abdel Rahman got the second position for his invention of the Aquamarine project, which removes plastic waste from seas and oceans using artificial intelligence.

Mariam Adeeb and Marina Farag got the third positions for their FACTO project, which converts carbon dioxide emitted from factories into methane to reduce air pollution.

The Dean of the faculty added that in the innovation competition for university staff, which was attended by 22 contestants, the jury announced the first position to the Key Wond team, for their project to invent a keyboard that uses air operation without using hands to help the visually impaired.

The team included (Amr Tariq, Omar Fawzy, Zahraa Youssef) from Faculty of Engineering, while the second position was won by the Rafiqi team.

For the project of inventing a prosthetic device, it included (Maryam Emad, Adham Riyad, and Mohamed Mustafa) from Faculty of Arts, Department of Special Categories.

Also, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence, won the  third position for a project to provide drinking water.

It is worth noting that the arbitration committee included Dr. Mohamed Asim, Assistant Lecturer at Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Hesham Hamed, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Sherif Adham, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Engineering, and Eng. Nahal Al-Maghribi, Director of the Rehabilitation Unit at the University.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Mohamed Khamis, Lecturer at Faculty, along with members of the arbitration committee from the Taiko Office, including Dr. Hani Mahmoud, Director of the Taiko Offices Unit, Dr. Khedr Ahmed, Dr. Sara Mustafa, and Dr. Duaa Ibrahim, members of the office.
