Dr. Hassan El-Nomany, President of Sohag University, announced that an electrical current stabilizer (AVR) was recently installed at a cost of EGP 43 million at the Emergency Hospital in New Sohag City. This is a significant step due to the sensitive and delicate nature of medical devices that directly rely on stable electrical current, such as intensive care units. Ventilators, MRI machines, and x-ray machines require a stable electrical current, and any fluctuations could affect patients, as could damage or malfunction medical equipment.
Al-Nomany emphasized that the electrical stabilizer is not just a technical option, but rather an essential component of the hospital’s infrastructure to ensure patient safety, protect equipment, and ensure uninterrupted medical service, even in the event of weak or high electrical voltage. It also prevents the shutdown of vital equipment during surgical operations or resuscitation.
In addition to preventing fires or electrical short circuits resulting from voltage fluctuations, this is part of university hospitals’ commitment to providing a safe environment for patients and staff.
Dr. Magdy El-Qady, Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, said: Significant efforts were made by the supplier company and hospital administrators to provide alternatives for intensive care, critical care, and emergency patients during the five-hour installation of the device. The electrical current was converted, loaded, and operated by generators. The device was successfully installed to the highest quality, without any problems or harm to any patient.
Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals, pointed out that the university administration continues to work on modernizing the infrastructure of university hospitals, by equipping them with the latest devices and equipment, to ensure the provision of advanced health services to citizens in Sohag Governorate and neighbouring governorates.
