Prof Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, opened the celebration activities for World Geographic Information Systems Day, which is organized by the Agency of Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs at Faculty of Arts in cooperation with the Department of Geography, in the discussion hall of the Faculty at the new university headquarters, in the presence of Prof. Abdel Nasser Yassin, Vice President of the University for Educational Affairs and students, prof. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, prof. Muhammad Tawfiq, Dean of the fsculty, and a group of staff members and students of the faculty, and representatives of companies and bodies who lectured at the ceremony.
At the beginning of his speech, Al-Nomani stressed that the implementation of this celebration reflects the the interest of the political leadership during the era of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in developing the fields of geographical information systems and artificial intelligence, for their important contribution to decision-making
He welcomed the university’s distinguished guests, representatives of companies, institutions and bodies participating in the celebration, adding that the world annually celebrates the International Day of Geographic Information Systems, which is held on November 18 of each year, with the aim of enhancing and consolidating awareness of the importance of these systems and their increasing applications and uses.
