Prof. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, praised the support given by the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to the health sector, especially to the university hospital sector in the South Upper Egypt region, which plays a pivotal role in the Egyptian health system, and provides more than 60% of tertiary health care services.
This came during his visit to the headquarters of Assiut University, in the presence of Major General Saeed Al-Najjar, First Assistant Minister of the Interior for the Medical Services Sector, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, Major General Mohamed Attia, Director of the General Administration of Hospital Affairs for the Giza and Upper Egypt Region, and Major General Hossam Othman, Chief Physician for the Medical Services Sector. Major General Dr. Ashraf Abu Al-Makarem, Undersecretary of the General Administration for Hospital Affairs in the Central and South Upper Egypt region.
Al-Noamani said that Sohag University has a group of distinguished medical edifices that provide health services of the highest levels of international quality, most notably the New Sohag University Hospital, which President Sisi inaugurated last January, and which is considered the largest and most important educational medical edifice in South Upper Egypt, as its cost about 1.2 billion pounds, and the Shifa Children’s Hospital is a gift from President of the Republic, to the people of South Upper Egypt in general and Sohag in particular, which cost approximately one billion pounds, and based on the directives of in his last visit to the governorate, its assets and subsequent land were transferred to Sohag University.
Al-Nomani added that the university is seeking to establish a number of new hospitals to be a new addition to the health system and provide the best means of care and distinguished services to serve the people of Sohag Governorate and neighboring governorates, as the emergency hospital and heart, chest, brain and nerve surgeries have been completed inside the university hospital, which is scheduled to open at the beginning of the year.
Next, he explained that an area of 7,500 square meters had also been allocated to implement the general surgery hospital project within the university campus in New Sohag, stressing that Sohag University Hospitals are keen to provide Upper Egypt with all the necessary medical and therapeutic services to raise the level of health care provided to citizens in Sohag Governorate, especially the category of Low-income people.
