The launch of Sohag University Theater performances in its fifth season

Sohag University launched the activities of the fifth festival “Teatro” for theatrical performances, which is organized by the Department of Cultural and Artistic Activity in the General Administration of Central Youth Welfare, over a period of 5 days, with the participation of 260 male and female students, representing 15 faculties of the university, on the stage of the Grand Conference Hall in the old campus. 

Dr. Mustafa Abdel-Khalek, President of the University, emphasized the keenness of the university administration to implement these creative and cultural activities, which contribute to showing and refining students’ talents, as basic activities that are no less important than academic study, explaining that culture in general and art in particular is what shapes minds and consciences, and contributes to Building the student’s personality.

Sabri Muhammad, Director General of the General Administration of Central Youth Welfare, said that the theatrical performances began yesterday with the play “Bird” for the College of Agriculture, the play “Hide and Seek” for the College of Engineering, and the play “Al-Mutarid” for the College of Specific Education. The College of Physical Education will play “Alex in Wonderland”, while the College of Arts will present its play “Pygmalion”, adding that tomorrow, Monday, the play “The Day They Killed Singing” will be shown for the College of Education, and the College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence will present the play “House of Ants”, followed by The Faculty of Commerce presented the play “Ansu Heroestratus” and the play “The Suez Epic” for the Faculty of Technology and Education.

Dr. Intisar Abu Dahab, Director of the Department of Cultural and Artistic Activity, added that on Tuesday, corresponding to March 21, the faculties of Archeology, Law, Pharmacy and Alsun will present their theatrical performances “The Happy Valley”, “Al-Wagash”, “The Ring” and “The Cursed”, and the theatrical performances will conclude. On Wednesday, she will play the “Baroque” play that will be presented by the Faculty of Nursing, adding that each faculty will participate in a theatrical team of no more than 18 students, and the closing ceremony of the festival will be on Wednesday, corresponding to the 22nd of March.

The jury for theatrical performances includes theatrical director Mohamed Gomaa, Director General of the Arts Department at Assiut University, and a director at the Ministry of Culture, plastic artist Jalal Abdel Hamid Tawfiq, Director General of the Sohag Culture Directorate, and Dr. Ahmed Kamal Ahmed, a faculty member at the Faculty of Arts, specializing in modern theatrical literature.
