2-    هدف المقرر :

At the end of this course the student nurse will be able to:

Apply knowledge and skills of Geriatric nursing in providing high quality care to the elderly, whether elderly in geriatric homes or community elderly, through the studying of all the physiological, psychological and social changes occur to the elderly and studying the problems and diseases that can occur for the elderly

المستهدف من تدريس المقرر :
‌أ)      المعلومات والمفاهيم : By the completion of this course the student should be able to

1.أ      Identifies basic geriatric terminology.

2.أ     Identifies theories of aging

3.أ     Describe demographics of aging, elderly needs, and factors affecting aging.

4.أ     Discusses available health services for elderly in Egypt and Sohag  city.

5.أ     Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of bio-psycho-social aging changes.

6.أ     Discuss role of geriatric nurse.

7.أ      Describe safety environment for elderly.

8.أ     Discuss the legal aspects of elderly.

9.أ     Illustrates preventive measures of risk factors and complication of falls.

10.أ Describes principles of caregiver, and their attitude toward elderly.

11.أ Discuss elder abuse.

12.أ Describes etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, and complication of common health problems affecting cognitive, emotional state and different body systems of elderly.

13.أ Recognizes principles of geriatric nursing management of common problems in elderly.

14.أ Discuss the basic essential nutrition for elderly.

  ‌ب)   المهارت الذهنية : By the completion of this course the student should be able to

1.ب Synthesize assessment data about elderly health status, and problems

2.ب Formulate specific geriatric care plan to meet elderly needs and problems.

3.ب Taking into account available community resources.

4.ب  Uses reasoning skills in prioritizing action

5.ب Synthesizes knowledge derived from the basic nursing, and medical courses for development of decision making in caring of elderly health problems

6.ب Uses teaching, and learning principles when given health education for elderly about their health problems.

7.ب Differentiates between dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

8.ب Compare between types of hazards facing elderly person.

  ‌ج)    المهارت المهنية الخاصة بالمقرر : By the completion of this course the student should be able to

1.ج  Apply geriatric nurse skills, and competence appropriately to essential care needs of the elderly

2.ج   Apply systematic nursing skills to prepare a plan of care for common elderly health problems.

3.ج  Use the available resources and learning efficiently and effectively to provide care for elderly people.

4.ج   Creates and maintain a safe environment for caring elderly.

5.ج  Measures critically the outcomes of geriatric nursing activities for common health problems of elderly.

6.ج   Make referrals to appropriate community resources available for elderly.

7.ج  Implement standardized protocols, and guidelines when providing nursing care for elderly, and document judgment of decisions and actions

8.ج  Use reasoning, and problem solving skills in prioritizing actions, and care provided for elderly.

  ‌د)      المهارات العامة : By the completion of the course the student should be able to

1.د .  Apply interpersonal communication and ethics in caring      for elderly people at different setting.

2.د . Develop critical thinking abilities.

 

3.د   Apply problem solving skills at different situation faced at different clinical Setting.

 

4. د Work productively in a team.

5.د Search effectively in websites relevant to certain subjects Setting

 

6.د Manage effectively time, resources and set priorities

7.د  Provide health education and counseling based on updated according the need of elderly people.
